Holy Trinity Parish History

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Asheville was founded in 1922 by a small group of Greek immigrants seeking to preserve their faith and culture. Initially, they held services in local churches and homes, as they lacked their own building. By the early 1930s, they rented space in the Moskins Building for worship and Greek school. As the community grew, they purchased a building at 66 Market Street in the late 1930s, where they held services and expanded their Sunday School.

In 1953, they bought the M.V. Moore estate on Cumberland Avenue, which was transformed into a community center. By 1957, construction began on a new church, completed in 1958, with their first full-time priest, Fr. Nicholas Spirakis, arriving in 1959. Over the years, the church has grown, undergoing a major renovation in 2007 and maintaining a traditional Byzantine style.

Today, under the leadership of Father Ioannis Capones, Holy Trinity continues to thrive, offering a variety of services, youth programs, and ministries to its vibrant community of over 150 families.
